The Different 3-point Hitches Explained

Three-point hitches come in different categories, numbered from zero to four.

Each category is designed for a specific range of tractor horsepower, with category zero being the lowest horsepower and category four being the highest. The design of each category is the same, but the hitch pin sizes and lower hitch spacing vary by category.

Category zero 3-point hitches are almost exclusively found on garden tractors and lawn tractors and are considered light-duty. Category three 3-point hitches are designed for tractors with 80 to 225 drawbar horsepower.

Category four 3-point hitches are designed for tractors with 180 to 400 horsepower.
